JANUARY - APRIL CALENDAR AND NEWSLETTER

Twice I sent out the newsletter email. The first time my computer messed up and didn't send the calendar; the second time I messed up and sent the 2008 Jan-April Calendar. Let's see if I can get this one right.

Two notes: Due to a scheduling change Mike Strong will not be here February 7. Sadly, we will no longer be accepting Michael's coupons.

So here for the third time is the first 2009 calendar.

JANUARY – APRIL 2009 CLASS SCHEDULE
Hi Everybody:

HAPPY 2009! My hope for all this year is a happy, healthy and prosperous year ahead. We will make friendships and keep our old ones—remember one is silver and the other gold. Thank you all for such a wonderful 2008, I am looking forward to seeing you all in 2009. Each one of you is very special not only to the heart of the shop but to me as well.

Please make note that as of January 1, Michael’s coupons will no longer be accepted in our shop. I am sorry to have to do this but it is a necessity. Watch our blog—there will be in shop coupons on a regular basis. Our blog is: http://www.karen-stampinheart.blogspot.com/ please check it often. Our weekly class schedule will be on the blog as well.

We will have some special guests this year. The first will be Mike Strong. We also have our regulars returning; Kelly Kilmer, Gayle Smith, Jessica Hollowell, Lori Lai and DeAnn Singh with her Calligraphy class.

Friday, Jan. 2: AFTER CHRISTMAS SALE1 Shop will be open at 10AM with everything on sale this weekend at 45% discount. This sale will go thru Jan. 4. Then back to our regular prices. Café night will be up and running as well. Sale Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday, Jan. 4: Our first Pinecone Book Club of 2009, Gayle Smith, $40. Love Notes is the project for this day. 1:00-4:00.

Friday, Jan. 9: Our first Make-It-Take-It, 2009—Jessica Hollowell--$5 per project, paid directly to the teacher. We'll have fun making heartfelt Valentine cards and/or tags (or maybe both) for someone special. There’ll be more than one design to choose from, or you can do them all.

Sunday, Jan 11: Memory Book, Gayle Smith, 12:30-4:00 $45 - Precious book using mauve, dusty rose, and pink glitter paper by My Minds Eye. Book is great for photos or keepsakes of loved ones. Book constructed with chipboard and spiral bound using the Bind it all machine. Supplies - Glue stick, 3 n 1, Fabric-tac, scissors, paper cutter, black memories ink pad, standard stamping kit

Wednesday, Jan. 14: Calligraphy Class #1 of 10. DeAnn Singh, $200 (for the series), 7-9. Limited to 15. You can pick the type of calligraphy you want to work on and DeAnn will help you learn it. She is a first class Calligrapher and is known in the entertainment circles as one of the best.

Friday, Jan. 16: Pinecone Press Book Club Project Night. If you are a member of the Pinecone Book Club, bring your projects and work on them at the shop. Gayle will be at as many of the sessions as she can to help you complete your projects. If you are NOT a member of the Pinecone Book Club the cost for this evening is $10. Usually we will have the project that we are doing individually so you can purchase the materials if you want.

Saturday, Jan. 17: Chocolate Explosion Box, Gayle Smith, 10:30-4:00 $55 - Create this fantastic box, that when the lid is removed, the box sides "explodes", or falls down, to show 8 pockets with tags. This is a great box to give to loved ones on Valentines or an anniversary. Tags have coupons offering such things as massages, movie night, breakfast end bed, etc. When box is folded, chocolate kisses can be placed in the center as an added treat. Supplies - red line tape, scissors, paper cutter, standard stamping kit.

Sunday, Jan. 18: Reclaimed: An Altered Artist’s Book, Kelly Kilmer, $65, 12:30-4:30.
I love books, books in all forms and books with a variety of different pages. This is a book you will love. You will create, using a hardcover book as a base, a book with a plethora of different pages in a variety of textures and designs. You will sew these pages into your Reclaimed book. You will then learn several new mixed media techniques to work on the pages. Your head will be full of new ideas after this class. We’re bringing altered books to a whole different level. You’ll fall in love with the idea of reclaiming a book that was headed to the dumpster as an amazing work of art. This is a class for beginners to advanced: all are welcome. Supply list: You need to bring a hardcover book (my sample is an old ledger, but you can use ANY kind of hardcover book. The size and thickness is up to you. Questions? Thursday, Jan. 29: Art from the Heart Club, this fun club encourages you to make cards and teaches you new techniques. Each month there will be a card swap. This club is also looking for new members—the more the merrier and so much fun too.

Saturday, Jan. 31: Fantastic Altered Flag Book, Jessica Hollowell, $50, 10:30-3:30—Bring lunch!!. This book is guaranteed to make anyone who opens it say, “Wow!” It’s a new take on an old favorite—a little bit of paper engineering mixed with a tone of collage and lots of stamping. It’s based on one that instructor Jessica Hollowell sent in to Somerset Studio magazine. Collage images will be provided. Sample will be in the store after January 4. Required materials: Glue sticks, RED tape, foam tape, precision scissors

Sunday, Feb. 1: Pinecone Press Book Club, Gayle Smith, 1-4, $40. Our project will be fun this month as it is every month. You will know in the January Club what will be in February.

Sunday, Feb. 8: Acrylic Heart book, 12:30-4:00, $45 - Combing acrylic heart shape, other acrylic pages, and chipboard pages to create a unique book of love. Plenty of flowers and ribbons in Gayle's style. Book spiral bound using Bind it All machine. Supplies - Stazon white ink pad, favorite variety of adhesives and glue dots, standard stamping kit

Friday, Feb. 13: Our 2nd Make-It-Take-It of 2009. Linda Forrest will be doing her artsy, beautiful designs. $5 per project.

Saturday, Feb. 14: TBA, Lori Lai, $50, 10:30-3:00. Lori has not given me a description or put a sample in the shop as yet but she does such fun things with the Hanko Yuzen paper and punches that you will definitely go home with cards that can be done over and over for anniversaries and birthdays and all other occasions.

Feb 15th: Triptych Book, Kelly Kilmer, 12:30 to 4:30 $65. This class was a HUGE success at Artfest 2001 and across the U.S. It's one of my favorite book forms. I'm bringing it back and revising it-updating it! A very unique book that lends itself to a variety of different styles. Please bring favorite scraps of ephemera (old letters, journal pages, collaged tags, etc…) You will construct a three panel book from scratch that can be used as a journal, story album, photo album, memorabilia book and more! Learn unusual ways of incorporating favorite imagery and collage ephemera into the design of the book. Walk away with your own personal journal with your head spinning with ideas! Supply List: Scissors, small selection of favorite collage ephemera, bone folder, cork back metal ruler, roll of waxed paper, roll of paper towels, container to hold water, 3 1" brushes to glue and paint (I like chip or bristle brushes), permanent black inkpad.

Saturday, Feb 21: Book Class, Wendy Poma, 10:30-2, $35. Wendy will be doing this adorable little fabric padded book. It is so attractive you will want to make two—one to keep and one to give away. Depending on the fabric, it can be a little bit country or a little bit Asian but whichever, it is beautiful.

Wednesday, Feb. 25: Calligraphy Class #7, DeAnn Singh, 7-9.

Thursday, Feb. 26: Art from the Heart Club, 6:30—Come one come all.

Saturday, Feb. 28: The A-Muse-ing Class, Linda Forrest 10:30-4:00, $55. : A-MUSE-
Be prepared to let 5 lovely muses guide your path. Together we will create an array of colorful yet aged backgrounds using acrylic paints on huge journaling tags which will be adorned by five of the nine muses. Names of the muses and what each one represents will be provided so that you can make your tags a personal reflection by journaling on the back - or not. Or you can make up your own! We will assemble quick and easy tag inserts to hold and display your completed works of art.

Sunday, Mar. 8: Mementos Book, Kelly Kilmer, 12:30-4:30, $65. In this workshop, we will be creating a 9x9” square journal with unusual pockets on the inside covers. This journal is one of my favorites. After constructing the book, we will also explore (hands on) a variety of new techniques in painting and collage. I love this book structure and so will you! Thursday, Mar. 26: Art from the Heart Club, come one, come all. A very fun club.

Saturday, Mar. 28: Special CD Holder Book, Jessica Hollowell, 10:30-3:30, $50. You will transform a plain, white CD holder into a beautiful book, with decorative papers, collage images, stamps and ribbons and flowers. And then to top it off, you’ll make a matching CD to tuck into the back pocket. This is based on another book sent by Jessica into Stampers Sampler for their Black and White call but it’ll be a lot more colorful. Required: Glue sticks, RED tape, precision scissors

Saturday, April 18: Sensational Envelopes, Jessica Hollowell, 10:30-3:30, $45. You’ll make envelopes of all sizes, including some from scratch, like none you’ve ever seen. And Jessica will bring a collection of her scraps to your design—sort of like a rummage sale for stampers. This class is based on Jessica’s envelope published in Stampers Sampler (see post on her blog, http://www.jesscreateit.com/ (or the magazine itself) for photo). Required: glue sticks, red tape, precision scissors

Sunday, April 19: Wisdom Book, Kelly Kilmer, 12:30-4:30, $65. In this workshop you will construct a 6 x 9” landscape size book (though you could also hold the book “steno notebook style”). I love to create journal forms that push me and give my creativity a boot! This book form sure did. I fell in love with it! It pushed me in a new direction. Not only will you create this new book in class, but you will also work hands on it learning new mixed media and collage techniques. You will learn a variety of techniques to get color (paint AND paper) and images onto the page. You will walk out with several pages completed and your head full of new ideas. Supply List: Scissors, small selection of favorite collage ephemera, bone folder, cork back metal ruler, roll of waxed paper, roll of paper towels, container to hold water, 3 1" brushes to glue and paint (I like chip or bristle brushes), permanent black ink.

One more note for the beginning of the year. Ellie Shaw is going to take a break from teaching Basics Class this year and try to get a little rest—THANK YOU ELLIE for all your hard work and artistic endeavors these past 7 years. Let us know when you’re ready to come back. Gayle Smith will be taking over the class for Ellie. Let us know if you want a Basics class and we will set it up with Gayle’s schedule.

Thanks for the info, Karen. My A-Muse class on Feb. 27th is $55, not $60 as written. I guess you can post the correct amount the closer the date of the class gets. I'll be bringing my sample in the shop soon and the info on the cost and supplies needed will be attached as well.
