NEW ORDER IN THE SHOP

For those of you who are making a shopping list--the following items have come into the shop either yesterday or today and will be out on the shelves tonight (Friday). Some of you were looking for the glazed cupcake paper from Bazzill, it is now in the shop (both in white and red) as well as some other papers that were ordered (either out of or new colors). We also have received a 10 pack of glitter spoons for those of you involved with glitter. Sticky Sticks are also back in the shop in limited quantity. They have been out and only sent a partial order (3 packages).

Here is a list of the other things that came into the shop:

Cats Eye Stylus Adaptor ; Hydra Sponges, Black Handle adaptors with different sponge and black tips; Marvy Heat Tool, Tim Holtz Retractable Craft Knife, Craft Pick, Craft Scratcher and refills for the Craft Knife; all colors of distress pads, both old and new. Reinkers are still on order.

ITEMS OF INTEREST: On Tuesday, June 8 we will be having a trunk show featuring Magenta, Crafty Secrets, Buttons Galore, Unity Stamps, and Earth Art. The cost is $15 and there will be enough materials and stamps for you to make up to 10 cards and take home with you. Merchandise can also be bought out of the trunks. It will take place from 2-8 PM, but we will close the MITI's at 7PM. It sounds like a fun day.

Also, Wednesday, July 14 there will be two Tattered Angels classes one from 11:30-2:30 and another from 6:30-9:30. The cost will be $50 which includes the Tattered Angels Kit. If you want to make yours into a photo album bring some 3x5 and 4x6 pictures for your pages. What a wonderful coffee table book, especially personalized.

We are also trying to get Els from Elizabeth Craft to come to our shop and teach a class. I will keep you updated about that--hopefully she isn't overbooked.

Please leave any ideas, questions or comments on this blogspot under comments. Looking forward to hearing from you.

MORE ON THE EXTRAVAGANZA

As I told you, we will continue to blog about the Extravaganza until all the teachers are covered. Once again, please forgive my blurry picture taking.
Our second teacher in this series is Lori Lai. Lori has been teaching here over a year. She also does the demonstrations at Carson Convention for Hanko--the ones with the beautiful Asian Washi paper and punches. Lori has done some tremendous classes with paper weaving and flower punches, etc. For Extravaganza she did a small stand-up note card (on the left) and a card with the flower that rolls back and forth all done with Opalite ink on brown paper--a very elegant and impressive card. Here I would like to introduce you to Lori Lai for those that haven't met her. She is just a girl out to have fun--and we all do.

Now for another recipe. This is the Neapolitan Cake Recipe

  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese at room temperature
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 package (18.25 ounces) white cake mix
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup NESTLE NESQUIK Chocolate Flavor Powder
  • 3/4 cup NESTLE NESQUIK Strawberry Flavor Powder
  • Powdered Sugar (optional) Chocolate Glaze (recipe to follow)

PREHEAT oven to 350o F. Grease and flour 10-inch, 12-cup fluted tube pan (I used Pam for baking).

BEAT cream cheese and eggs in large mixer bowl until smooth. Beat in cake mix alternately with milk. Beat on high speed for 2 minutes (batter will be thick). Remove 2 cups batter and place in a separate bowl; stir in chocolate Nesquik. Remove 2 more cups white cake batter and place in separate bowl; stir in strawberry Nesquick.

SPOON strawberry batter into prepared pan; tap pan on counter lightly. Spoon white batter over strawberry batter covering it completely; spoon chocolate batter over white batter.

BAKE on center oven rack for 55 to 65 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in cake comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack for 45 minutes. Loosen edges with butter knife if needed; invert onto wire rack to cool completely. Sprinkle with powdered sugar or drizzle with chocolate glaze over cake.

Chocolate Glaze Recipe:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup whole milk (I used evaporated)
  • 1 package (6 ounces: 1 cup) semisweet chocolate chip

Place the sugar, butter and milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a boil. Boil, stirring constantly, for 1 minute. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the chocolate chips. When the chips have melted and the glaze is smooth, pour it over the warm (my cake was cold when I did this) cake so that it covers the entire surface. The glaze will be thin but will firm up. Coll the cake for 20 minutes more before cutting it and serving. NOTE: I did the cake in the morning and poured the glaze over it that night.

You might like someone else's stamps and would like to stamp extra images to do things at home.

EXTRAVAGANZA FUN IS OVER

For those of you who missed it, we had an absolutely fun day yesterday as shown here by one of our teachers, Ms Gayle Smith. Many of my pictures were blurred or slightly blurred but we don't want to lose them so I'm posting anyway.

Keep a watch for other pictures coming your way. Gayle's class was fabric flower pins and were phenomenal--all 16 of our ladies went home with these wonderful flower pins. I will be featuring each of our teachers over the next little while. But Gayle's infectious grin is the one I chose to start with--I will try and get a picture of each of the teachers projects and post them when I do the feature of that teacher. Right now I have no pictures of the projects--teachers, if you have a picture of your project, please send it to me so I can post for all to see.

For those that asked for the recipes of yesterday, I will post one every so often so if you keep watch you will have them all. We are starting with our Strawberry Green Salad

  • 1-2 heads of lettuce (romaine and red)
  • 12 oz. toasted slivered almonds
  • 2 pints of strawberries.
Dressing: (I usually double the recipe)
  • 1 cups of mayonnaise
  • 2 TBSP honey ginger vinegar (or any kind, I used pear infused vinegar)
  • 1/4 cup milk (I used evaporated)
  • 1-cup sugar (I used Splenda--you can use all sugar, all Splenda or a combination of both)
  • 1 tsp. poppy seeds

Wash lettuce and strawberries. Tear lettuce, slice strawberries. Spread almonds on a cookie sheet and bake them at 375o for about 5 minutes. Cool almonds. Mix all salad ingredients together. Mix dressing ingredients together and pour over salad JUST BEFORE serving.

Any questions, please post them to the blog or email me.

And now I want to introduce you to Stampin' from the Heart's personal security the one that let all the ladies have fun but kept them in order so they didn't get too out of hand. She looks gentle as a lamb, but don't get out of order in her presence, she can be feisty. Our very own Mrs. Jackson!

More pictures and notes to come, keep watching. Thanks to all our wonderful teachers and you great students that took the Extravaganza.
